The Medicinal Properties of the CBD

What is the CBD?

The CBD is a cannabinoid present in the cannabis plant with a conception molecular very similar to THC , but unlike the latter, the CBD has no psychotropic effect, in other words, does not cause any feeling of intoxication, of vertigo or euphoria, characteristics associated with THC and more generally to the recreational use of marijuana .

The Cannabidiol CBD has several therapeutic properties that will be introduced in this article. An interesting feature of this molecule is its low toxicity and the fact that it has very few undesirable side effects: in the worst case, too high a dose could cause sedation (before sleep). You can notice that CBD has low affinity with cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), but it acts more importantly with other receptors in the human body , such as GPR55 or 5-HT1A .

A study shows that a marijuana plant extract rich in CBD has a better efficiency than CBD used in its pure form , thanks to the other cannabinoids, aromatic terpenes, and some other molecules present in the plant, which act in natural synergy to improve the action of the CBD and in particular its dosage or efficiency ratio. Therefore, it is important to use, when possible, products that also have these other synergistic molecules, and not only the CBD in its isolated form.

There are several products of CBD that should be consumed in the form of oil, capsules, or sprays with CBD. The dosage of CBD is not well defined by science yet and varies depending on the disease to be treated, but it is usually common to start with 1mg of CBD for each Kg of body weight, and progressively increase until finding the efficient dose.

Another study shows that the CBD consumed orally can be transformed into THC by the acidity of the gastric juices of the stomach. This could explain why some children who consume CBD against epilepsy have the typical experience of side effects of THC, such as drowsiness. Therefore, it is advisable to consume the CBD using sublingual (under the tongue), thus avoiding passing through the digestive system.

Cannabidiol CBD can also be used in the form of creams, ointments and other compounds. The topical route is particularly efficient to fight localized pains, or to treat skin problems such as acne or psoriasis.

There are also several varieties of marijuana with THC and CBD levels in balanced proportions. These genetics have a less strong psychoactive effect than the classical varieties rich in THC, and allow efficient use of the properties of CBD. The CBD Crew seed bank has recently developed a variety of marijuana that is much richer in CBD than in THC, called CBD Therapy.

Those who want to take advantage of the therapeutic properties of CBD but want to enjoy the recreational effects of THC can feel at ease: this study published in December 2015 in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology shows that oral consumption of CBD does not reduce the potency or the quality of the effects of smoked or vaporized THC.
